Welcome to OLAFSOLAFS is the Open Local Area File Sharing tool. It is fully written in Java and consists of a peer to peer library for local area networks and a music player GUI. This GUI uses a playlist composed of files from all OLAFS users in the LAN and plays them no matter where they are physically located. Why did we develop OLAFSWe were looking for a way to extend the playlists at our working place. At first we used MS-Windows shares but with more shares it seems that the MS-Windows system got slower and slower, especially if some of the connected computers are down. The next try was a streaming server, but it was difficult to select files for playing and every user had to listen to the songs someone else had choosen. OLAFS gives you the possiblilty to access a LAN-wide music database. There is no need to open shares on other computers or to copy all the files you like to your own computer. Simply start the OLAFS GUI. Files from new users are added automatically to your list. The shuffle mode of the player takes the new files into account instantly.
